Know Your Territory
Looking at Scripture from this lens of responsibility is helpful because the Holy Spirit will show us how to walk in the freedom of obedience, without trying to control or manipulate. It helps us have a right view of who God is, and to have clear boundaries in our lives. We need to know what we are responsible for, what others are responsible for, and what God is responsible for. When these 3 areas get mixed up, a whole host of problems will follow.
Mining Your Inheritance
The Bible talks about inheritance quite a bit. I’ve always thought of it as like a big cheque you get when a relative dies. A list of treasured possessions that get passed down from one generation to the next. A stack of golden crowns you get to wear when you walk into heaven. Now I’m not saying that’s wrong, but perhaps there’s more under the surface of our inheritance.
3 Strategies for Spiritual Warfare
Here is something I know to be true about spiritual warfare: God has equipped you, and He fights with you. Here’s something else I know - a lot of the time this doesn't feel true. When we are under attack, we often feel powerless, frustrated and discouraged. It's hard to remember this truth and to act on it, but there are some practical steps you can take the next time you find yourself on the battle field fighting for spiritual health and freedom.
What I learned after studying the Bible for 2 years
I've always been someone who feels God in worship, and would do devotionals out of obedience, but never really felt close to God through reading. But over the past few years, I have felt God in Scripture. I have experienced life changing moments with Him. I have wept, I have laughed, I have been lit up with joy as I read my Bible. I have felt the closeness of the Holy Spirit, bringing wisdom and revelation from studying books and chapters I never would have considered powerful.
40 Leadership Principles
Here are 40 Leadership Principles from the books of 1 & 2 Kings! These are all the Kings (and 1 Queen) of Israel and Judah that are listed in these books. You might notice that some of these kings only reigned for a couple of days and have no more than a verse or two in Scripture. I hope you are encouraged, and see that no matter how small your story seems, God can do something great with it!
Toxic Thoughts
I'm a person who loves logic. I need things to make sense, I like puzzle pieces to fit and I can't sleep until my t's are crossed and my i's are dotted. I struggled a lot with toxic thinking in the past because it made sense. It was logical, experience based conclusions that dominated my thinking, but it was toxic.
Armed for Battle
The apostle has written this beautiful letter detailing the inheritance that is available to us in Christ, and then encouraging the Ephesians to move from darkness to light, to let go of their past and partner with the God who makes all things new. And then before he signs off, he looks at the soldier holding him captive, the one who came to steal his freedom, and says this. This is what we need. This is what is available to us, what God has provided that stops the enemy from stealing, killing and destroying.
Preparing for the Unknown
The more my circumstances seem to spin into chaos, the more I want to bring order and control. But what if there was a different way? If God says that He delivers us from all fear, then even in the spinning and chaos I get to claim that promise.
The Real Meaning of Abide
Abiding is one of those tricky concepts that sounds a lot easier than it is. It sounds restful but it's not (always). It sounds like something you do, but it's more about who you are. Abiding sounds like an action you can check off your to do list, but it's really, really not. Abiding is not about carrying God with you everywhere, it's about letting Him carry you.
Kingdom Fathers
Men don't exactly have it easy in this society, there's a lot of pulls in different directions, to be who someone else says they should be. To be who someone else needs them to be. Each of those paths leads to a false freedom, an empty promise for fulfillment and identity. Men, you will only be free to the degree you comprehend you are loved.
Walk by the Spirit
There's one thing we all have in common on this side of heaven. No matter where we are in our journey, we contain both spirit and flesh. We are a mix of heaven and earth, like water and oil slamming up against each other but never mixing. We often feel at war with our own selves, and we are not alone.
Kingdom Mothers
Mothers are designed to love. God in His mighty omniscience granted this overwhelming capacity to love unconditionally, knowing He had already designed us to be born as babies who mostly just cry and poop and bring a lot of pain. I don't know how you can explain a mother's love without mentioning God.
Can I Forgive Without Forgetting?
It's a necessary part of relationship - I would argue you can't be in authentic relationship without practicing forgiveness. If it's so common and so necessary, why oh why is it so difficult?! Why do so many of us struggle with this task of forgiveness?
